22nd July 2018:

Stayed 4 nights with teenagers in a separate room. Great room, comfortable king size bed. Wonderful view of the Bristol Channel and the harbor. Great breakfast, well made with lots of choices. Sharon is wonderful and so is everyone else! Highly recommended!

Tips:

The local restaurants are plentiful. Our best choice was Number 11, the Quay. Superb food and service. But at a reasonable price.

Really nice guest house. The lady owner was lovely and looked after us very well. Breakfast superb. Easy 5 minute walk into ilfracombe. The only negative is that the room was really hot because of the heat wave and would probably be helped by a bigger fan

Tips:

The Quay restaurant on the harbour is superb but be prepared to pay a little bit more.

Best ever stay in a guest house... made even better by Sharon the wonderful host. Rooms comfortable with gorgeous touches you don’t usually find in luxury hotels let alone a guest house/B&B Breakfast awesome, well stocked honesty bar, comfy bed with lovely linens... just great! Short walk into town/Harbour.., just perfect in terms of location and offer on the whole! Actually cannot wait to get back- which is unusual coming from someone that usually endeavours to try new places. Massive thanks to Sharon - you were welcoming, helpful, super friendly yet far from intrusive.

Tips:

Great Italian restaurant in town - cannot remember the name but Sharon knows! Lovely bars along the harbour... avoid the big pub though that joins the harbour wall ... Watch out for seagulls... Park out front - dragging a suitcase up the ‘hill’ and steps is a bit of a mission! Visit Ilfracombe, visit this guest house .... it’s so much more than that.

Thank you Sharon, Darryl and Carol for a lovely stay at the Collingdale. Your professionalism, warmth and hospitality were second to none. You were always on hand to provide expert knowledge of the local area including numerous recommendations for places to eat and what to see. My slight markdown from the perfect 5 across the board was just for the size of the bathroom, although there was everything needed for the stay, the shower was a little small and the bed very soft. However, these are minor points given the welcome we both received from you. I must also applaud you on your breakfast - by far the best I had during my time in the South West, really lovely. Thank you all so much for a wonderful stay.

Tips:

We ate at Relish restaurant and the food was amazing, as were the waiting staff. I can't recall the owner's name but she was fabulous and helpful with things to see and do. Ilfracombe - visit the bathing pools, Espresso and Relish. Woolacombe is a short drive away and has the most amazing beach.

The Collingdale guest house is absolutely to recommend. We’ve been for a week in Cornwall and it was the most cosiest and nicest B&B we’ve had. There are several arguments for this; the landlady Sharon does everything to comfort you. She advices you for food restaurants and makes the reservation. In our case the Expresso seafood bar, which was excellent. The breakfast was also excellent. Of course a traditional English breakfast is possible, but instead you can have grilled fish too. The bar in the house is terrific too. First the prices are surely reasonable, but the one thing you absolutely have to take is a bottle of white wine; the quality is outstanding. We loved our stay in the Clllingdale and it was one of out highlights of our trip to Cornwall.

This is ne of the best guest houses we have ever stayed in. We returned after about five years and it was even better this time, so clean and comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. We hope to return again soon.

Tips:

There are several good restaurants in Ilfracome harbour area, but it may be a good idea to book, especially at more busy times. We enjoyed a drink in the local pub first and ate both nights at Take Thyme - a seafood restaurant which had great food and and a good atmosphere. We enjoyed visiting Clovelly, Appledore, Hartland, Lynton and Lynmouth and Porlock Weir, as well as poking around all the little streets at the Harbour.

Collingdale Guest House is in a good location and has views towards the harbour. The food at breakfast was very good with a wide choice to suit everyone and great service by the staff.

Tips:

There is a selection of boat trips from the harbour where you can enjoy a trip to try and see dolphins etc. Plenty of good walks to try in parks if the weather is good. Quite a lot of restaurants along the front to choose from, we liked the Italian.

Great Hotel and location with a nice view on the sea and central. Owners are amazing friendly and I've to thank also Hotels.com for helping me with the booking as I checked in out of the suggested time. Breakfast in the morning excellent to start the day in a positive way. Thank you! Marco

Tips:

5 minutes walking from the Hotel, there is a charming little harbour that in the night is great to see...different choices of restaurants available and I'd recommend fish as it's really fresh from the day (from the hour I'd say).

This beautiful period house is exceptionally well looked after and is in a great location with quick access to Ilfracombe sea front. Sharon is a wonderful host and gave us a really warm welcome. The town map and tips on where to explore and places to eat helped us make the most of our (too short) stay. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Collingdale to others.

Ideal location with sensational views. All staff were friendly and accommodating. Information of local interest pointed out as soon as we arrived - so that it gave us time to plan ahead. The breakfast was amazing - the best we have had for a very long time.

Tips:

Minutes away from the pier. You have to try the 2/3 tier flavoured ice cream - really delicious . Woolacombe Beach is excellent, not to be missed - 30 minute bus journey and also Tunnel Beach which is walking distance from the guest house. Dolphins - fish and chips, fresh cod - delicious. Smugglers - the salmon was delicious. Old Mill House 'afternoon tea' - the fruit scones were like no other! They were absolutely delicious.

You was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area and what there was to do and visit during our stay. The house was positioned with beautiful views over the harbour and the rooms are very comfortable and homely. Your breakfast was amazing every day with a varied variety of options and you was very accommodating of my diet requirements.

Tips:

There is the most amazing food in a restaurant called relish down in the local town. I had the fish stew and would highly recommend it. If you are looking for a sandy beach there is one about 20 minutes away that's called Staunton sands. There is a cafe, toilets and a little shop on the beach with easy parking.

Well what can I say? Fantastic place, one of the best we've ever stayed in. Collingdale is decorated to a great standard and is kept very clean. The service you get is of an excellent standard, as is the breakfast....in fact, wow, the breakfast is 2nd to none, I don't think you could find better anywhere. The views from our room were amazing, yes we were on the top floor, but I doubt any of the other rooms were lacking in their views either. I would definitely recommend staying here. We will definitely come back.

Tips:

The Thatched Inn just up the road is definitely somewhere I recommend to eat, the portions are big and the food was great.....especially the Fish & Chips and also the Thatch Burger & Chips. Also, try The Naked Cake for midday food they were good too. Things to do...well who could resist the Crazy Golf? Not us that's for sure!!

Lovely guest house. Sharon was is a fantastic host. The rooms are compact & bijou and tastefully decorated. The whole place was spotlessly clean, felt homely and welcoming. Breakfast was cooked to perfection and plenty of it. The only slightly negative comment is that the showers are so noisy, but I appreciate they run by an electric pump, having said that they delivered a powerful hot shower and made us laugh at the noise they made! Thank you, we really enjoyed our stay, special thanks for letting us use your parking spec

Tips:

We enjoyed the 1hr cruise on the princess seeing the local landmarks which was very interesting. Visted Barnstaple and did some shopping which was nice. Had a lovely Thai meal at the cottage in Lynton. We would recommend this area because there is lots to see and do very close by. There are some lovely award winning restaurants within walking distance.

Thank you so much for a smooth and trouble free stay! We stayed for a wedding in Ilfracombe with my disabled daughter, and whilst there aren't any accessible facilities, (none were essential) everybody helped to make things trouble free. Thank you again so much! Oh, and hotel WiFi is often in name only - this one actually works, and works well!

My husband and I had a lovely stay! We felt very welcomed from the moment we stepped through the door! The room was very comfortable and the view pretty lovely. Not a far walk for the main part of town, the only small downside is the parking situation, however there was plenty of parking behind the property for a small fee! all in all a great stay!! On a final note the breakfast was superb and a great range of options available!!

Tips:

Ensure you bring your sensible shoes as there are lots of steep roads!! High heels not really recommended or at least bring flats to change into.

We had a lovely stay in this room. OK, the toilet is a hop skip and a jump away from the room itself, but you could view that as a plus in some circumstances! The room itself was tight, but lovely. Fantastic views of the harbour, Verity and the island. Wonderful bug sash window for lots of fresh air. Heater was strong enough to make the room very toasty. The shower is small, but powerful, does the job nicely. The landlady was super friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed our stay.

Thoroughly enjoyed our short break. Lovely room with everything you needed. Excellent views and food. Wouldn't hesitate in staying there again.

Tips:

Good choice of places to eat especially seafood. Lots of walking didn't have enough time to do everything we would have liked to. Will need another weekend away to do this.

5th July 2015:

Really comfortable, welcoming and ideally situated to embark on coastal walks or dinner in the town. The breakfasts were fantastic, fresh fruit salads and vegetarian available as well as Sharon's delicious cooked choices of fresh fish. As a gay couple, we googled gay-friendly places to stay, and thus found the Collindale. The staff and owners proved to be wonderfully hospitable, open, friendly and non-judgemental, making our stay wonderful. The prices are great considering the breakfasts and stunning views. Sharon also has an incredible local knowledge so assisted us with all our questions. I would highly recommend staying at the Collingdale to friends and family.

Tips:

As vegetarians, we really enjoyed the choice of breakfasts that the Collingdale offered and being so plentiful they set us up for the day, thus saving on buying lunches. In town, we enjoyed "the Starter Bar", who offer a full veggie menu page and the staff were down to earth and friendly. For walkers, the Collingdale is located at the start of the coastal pathway so was easy to walk up the hill and on to immediate nature paths, forests, cliffs and beaches etc.

We were so glad that we found you. A beautiful house that's just a small stroll into the town. The breakfast was delicious and served with a smile. A family run establishment we will definitely stay in again on our next visit to Ilfracombe.

Tips:

For me personally Damiem Hursts statue of Verity is amazing. It's a bit controversial to some but to see her standing looking out to sea on a beautiful evening with the sky streaked red behind her was just awesome. I love the fact that Ilfracombe is still a pretty working seaside harbour without the crowds of St.Ives or Padstow etc. Wonderful restaurants, galleries and Ice cream shops. Great for all ages

We loved our room and the fact that we could just walk to many great restaurants around the Harbour! The hosts spoiled us with advice on local walks, pre-booked some great restaurants for us before we arrived, and of course, the fantastic breakfasts!! Room was quiet and bright with all sorts of added treats! Thanks!!

Tips:

Do read their website and ask them to book for dinners ahead as many were completely booked and their suggestions were great!!

Professional yet very friendly owners and staff. The bed was very (very) comfortable. Breakfast room wonderful ambiance and views amazing Breakfast wasn't to bad (only kidding) best tasting, prepared and served breakfast we have had in a long time. Parking could be an issue but access from the rear of the house helps. The walk from the rear of the house to the harbour is a pleasant 10 mins We had visited 5 hotels in 6 days and this one wins hands down We would stay here again, yes we would

Tips:

Woolacombe worth a visit, they have a market on a Mon and the beaches are fab. Ilfracombe harbour is fantastic, so small yet lots to do. Best fish and chips (Lymbs) I think ( not the blue one the yellow one) had a lovely steak in the Key, expensive but very nice. If you like history just follow your nose as its there in heaps.

Wonderful Hosts who make you feel welcome and comfortable. Excellent view of the Harbour from my window. Lovely cooked breakfast. It's a shame there is no lift for the less mobile visitors as they miss out on staying at such a nice, traditional seaside guesthouse.

Our stay was very comfortable and our host Sharon was so friendly and helpful and gave us lots of ideas for things to see and do. TIP - go for a sea view room with balcony, it's worth the extra. Breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious! We will be back

Expect to pay for your parking. Free parking is available out the front but we never managed to find a space in the five days we were there, but then again it was a bank holiday week. Had a really delightfull stay, booked the sea view/balcony room and really was worth the extra paid to get up every morning to the view of the harbour & sea. Breakfasts were superb, smoked haddock &a kippers highly recommended. Found Sharon & her husband very friendly & nothing is too much trouble for them. Will be going back again.

Tips:

Chambercombe Manor, 20 min walk away (hilly though) well worth a visit to this spooky old Manor House. Arlington Court, delightful house & gardens, one of the biggest collection of old carriages I have ever seen. Many fine restaurants, TheThatched Inn 100m from hotel, very good food & beer. The Smugglers inn by the harbour was very good too, as was the Italian restaurant close to Wetherspoons.

The room was warm, clean and cozy. We loved the Full Devon Breakfast and all of the other breakfast choices. The Pier Tavern on the harbour is a lovely spot for a drink with 'Wizard'locally brewed ales.We did not eat there so can't comment on food. Can highly recommend 'La Gendarmerie'. Food and service exceptional!

Sharon & Daryl proved to be excellent hosts. Sharon in the forefront and Daryl cooking breakfasts to die for. The hotel was a superb choice and we look forward to our next stay.

Tips:

Sharon recommended a few restaurants and we chose to eat at Smugglers, Harbour Lights and Hele Billy's which were all superb.
