Lovely place, the whole place was very clean and tidy. Professional but friendly and relaxed team.

Tips:

Avoid going left out of the hotel on Trimstone Lane, it is very narrow in parts with very few passing places!

Very comfortable room. All staff friendly, helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was enjoyable but we would have liked fruit, yogurt and more choice of cereals. Well stocked tea, coffee, milk etc in room but snacks e.g. biscuits would add an extra touch.

Tips:

SQ restaurant , the Rock Inn and the Depot for evening meals. Booking advisable. National Trust coastal walks in the area.

Thank you for your comments. Sorry about breakfast - we are always happy to accommodate special requests in advance. We try to manage but waste and environmental concerns to provide what most guests require but are always happy to make extra provision as long as we know! This year too we couldn't do our usual room replenishments but again, are happy to provide if we are informed! Look forward to seeing you again and perhaps in normal times!

A comfortable and quiet break. Most facilities (pool, gym, etc) not used - we would have used Restaurant for evening meals, had it been open. The only staff met were owners and Amanda - all perfectly helpful and charming. Proximity of Arlington Room to Office workstations might be a problem for guests with work to do - not in our case. Some light bulbs defunct, but no major issues with room. Parking spaces seemed to be utilised to full capacity.

Tips:

Nothing to add to well-marketed local attractions. Would recommend The Crown at West Down for evening meals mid-week when Tyne Restaurant is closed.

Trimstone Manor is a beautiful setting for a getaway. The hotel and grounds are wonderful, the staff so friendly and helpful. We really felt at home-from-home there. The facilities - pool, trampoline etc. were ideal - the pool was lovely and warm! I think the breakfasts each morning were delicious. The children loved the Emu's and Peacocks too! My children and I had a wonderful time and we will definetly book again soon. Thank you Helen, Philip and the team!

Lovely location! Wish we ha more time to explore and do the local walks. The Pool was lovely and warm, we did put some money in the Sauna, but it would have taken a lot for it to heat up enough I think! so we gave up. Loved all the ducks etc. The Room was great and bigger than we had expected. It was nice to be able to bring the dog too!

Tips:

Fish and Chips were a lovely in the harbour! The full English at the hotel was yummy!

1st September 2020:

We had a lovely stay at Trimstone; it was perfect for our needs. We had three rooms in our own wing of the property and one was set up for self catering so we could prepare food for our toddlers. The hotel is very homely and comfortable and the staff and owners very friendly. As the restaurant was closed we were able to use the gardens and picnic tables for BBQs and even brought our pizza oven! Having the swimming pool on site was fantastic and the hotel is a short drive to the seaside towns and beautiful beaches.

Tips:

Woolacombe beach, Ilfracombe, Squires fish and chips, The Valley of the Rocks coastal walk

We always love it here, it was our 5th stay being at Trimstone Manor Country House Hotel. We love the people and staff who own it. My kids adore being here and the activities of the Trampoline and of course the warm Swimming pool. But most of all the places to visit. We love seeing Watermouth and Big Sheep Milky Way and the Harbour and Braunton. We will be coming back here sometime and always. Thanks very much For having us to stay At Arlington room. Thank you Philip and All. And Dogs and other Animals.

Tips:

I recommend seeing Watermouth if you have young children, It’s awesome. The Big Sheep and Millky Way, Funder Zone a play area for rainy days, Woody bay Steam train ride and there is a great cafe lovely food. Also Woolacombe beach lovely soft golden sand. And Braunton A361 Road lovely restaurant’s but not the George Inn, we didn’t have fun in there also AGGI☹️. There is a children play area in Braunton near the Tesco Round about, I’m sure Philip the manager will tell you the name, it’s great for rainy days.

Staff very friendly and always willing to help. The room was massive and the bed exceptionally comfortable, don’t normally sleep in strange places except for here, children loved the animals, swimming pool, trampoline and freedom to run and play in the field areas. Would definitely consider staying here again

Tips:

Short drive into ilfracombe and the harbour, beautiful area with lots to do with children. We went to Combe Martin wildlife and dinosaur park 15 minute drive away from trimestone manor and country hotel which was a fabulous day out would recommend trying it.

11th February 2019:

We went as a group, we had the hotel to ourselves and this suited us very nicely. We found it very homely and friendly. From the service side of things we felt it was understaffed. Food was very slow to arrive at both dinner and breakfast, and the bar was not available after dinner on one night. Should also mention that the TV in Ilfracombe did not work, would recommend that bath mat is provided in Ilfracombe as water pours out of shower when in use. In two other rooms there was a problem with lights not working properly. When these electrical problems were reported it seems that they were known about and had supposedly been rectified.

27th January 2019:

All the staff were excellent and, as the only guests staying at the time, we had their undivided attention! The breakfasts (we stayed on a B&B basis) were exemplary. Despite the hotel advertising 'all year' facilities, we couldn't have evening meals on site. The indoor pool was also unavailable - a big disappointment as we had planned to use it during our stay.

Tips:

January is obviously pretty much 'closed season' in the local area. Many pubs, restaurants, shops and attractions were closed. However, we had planned a number of walks and were not disappointed with the choice of coastal and countryside routes in the local area.

Owner Response:

Dear Mr and Mrs H Just a short note to thank you so much for your kind review. I wanted to write not only to thank you but also to apologise for any confusion in relation to our facilities; we have tried really hard to ensure that our website and other material is clear in relation to what we can offer and when and I am very sorry if that was not reflected when you chose to stay with us. We have closed the Pool over the winter every year now for about eight years as the building was never constructed correctly to be effectively insulated and the demand, regardless, is very low outside of the main period from Easter to the October Half-term. Naturally we should not have wanted to disappoint you whatsoever. We also had to take a decision regarding evening meals as more and more guests choose ‘variety’ of different establishments and we moved to ‘weekends only’ also some time back now as again, we could not justify the service with what was becoming a more eclectic booking arrangement sadly. We offer them to groups of six or more on any evening by prior arrangement too. We are always happy directing guests to local hostelries according to their tastes. We do endeavour to cover these arrangements in our booking confirmation which you should have received and clearly if then a guest is not happy as they have not seen the prior details and terms, we should be able to make reparation and recommend alternatives perhaps. However, please do come back and try us again and we’d be delighted to accommodate your every need and as a special concession, I am happy to extend a goodwill gesture of 10% off your accommodation cost as well. My very best wishes and looking forward to seeing you again. Philip J Milton Owner Trimstone Manor Country House Hotel

26th November 2018:

We stayed for 2 nights in November with our 2 dogs. We wanted somewhere close to Ilfracombe but out of the town centre is we were ideally placed 3 miles away at Trimstone. Greeted by friendly cheerful staff and shown to our room which backed on to a meadow which worked out well for dog necessities at 10pm!! We ate at the restaurant on the first evening and had the restaurant to ourselves. The food was excellent and although only 3 main courses, the two we had were really well cooked and we couldn’t fault the food or service. We also had breakfast on our last day and again the food was first class. Ideally situated for dog walks at the beach, approx 10 minutes away, or going on away days I couldn’t speak highly enough of the staff, the food and the location. If we return to this part of Devon we will definitely stay again.

Tips:

Be prepared that this time of year some of the amenities ie swimming pool will be closed. Also a bit of forward planning for the chef with meals is recommended just to make sure everything is there that you need. Great beach at Woolscombe and nice craft shops in Ilfracombe. If you want to eat out try The Rock at Georgeham. Superb.

Great location. Not too close to the beach but easy reach to it. Not overcrowded. Nice garden to have breakfast there. Hotel needs a bit of refresh, but we still enjoyed the stay.

Tips:

Ilfracombe - 7min drive, Italian restaurant next to wheatherspoons serves the best calamari, food was amazing. Lee bay - hidden beach behind the rocks, amazing views if going up the hill from there. Beaches are sandy. Just need the waves

17th July 2018:

The Manor House, though a little run down and in need of refurbishment in places, is utterly charming. We fell in love with it at first sight and we hope to return to savour it's wonderful views in other seasons. The restaurant served excellent breakfasts with a very accomodating and helpful chef. We had only one dinner as the restaurant is only open on Friday and Saturday evenings. The meal was delicious and we were sad that it was not open more. The swimming pool is warm and inviting and we made good use of it. The staff are all helpful and friendly and made us feel very welcome. it would have been nice to use the tennis court but it is overgrown with weeds and in need of attention at the moment.

Tips:

We visited the near by National Trust property of Arlington Court which we can highly recommend. We also went to the beautiful Marwood Hill Gardens (leaflet in Hotel reception) which was absolutely beautiful and well worth a visit. We ate at The Crown in West Down a couple of evenings and had very nice reasonably priced meals. This is just a 10 minute drive from The manor. The fish and chips at Morthoe were lovely for an Al fresco meal and Ilfracombe has a super little Italian restaurant.

5th July 2018:

A delightful place to stay especially good for those with dogs. A lovely holiday for them too. I especially like being able to use the warm large indoor pool, and sauna. The wildlife menagerie of peacocks, ducks, Guinea fowl, emus was a joy not far from our accommodation, was a delight. One small criticism; Charging extra for a zedbed because there was only one double bed , I considered a bit mean. I was on holiday with my sister.

Tips:

Putsborough Beach fabulous ( less steep to Walk down than Woolacombe ) Friendly people with dogs. We were so lucky with amazing sunny days. Georgeham, small village between Trimstone and the coast . Two welcoming pubs. The Kings Arms the better. We tend to eat dinner quite late. Don’t be caught out by last orders for food at 9pm! Thank you

Really lovely place to stay, lots of original features, nice and cosy. Bed was super comfy and nice new bathroom with a great shower. We stayed here for a triathlon in Ilfracombe and the staff were really helpful and accommodating as we needed a really early breakfast that morning. They provided porridge pots, juice and fruit as well as a really good selection of tea/coffee/hot chocolate etc in the room. Normal breakfast the second morning was cooked to order and there was also a nice selection of cereal/juice etc etc. Great find, we will stay here again.

Peaceful, quiet location- just exactly where I can have a perfect me time. Attended my friends' wedding, had a goodnight sleep before it and just absolutely had a relaxing day in the hotel after. Staff are pleasantly accommodating, courteous and kind. My room was clean and lovely, with a garden view. I love watching the sun rise every morning from my window while having a cup of tea. It's not like one of the modern hotels but it's where you would want to stay for a couple of days to unwind. If you're looking for an escape from your busy routine, it's a relaxing place to be. If you just want a place to sleep, you'll surely have a safe and good night.

Tips:

Only had breakfast at the hotel, loved it. Loved the garden, just sitting there alone for an hour while chatting with friends on Fb :) Didn't have lots of plan during my visit but I really had a wonderful stay.
