19th September 2018:

Farm b&b located on the very edge of Ilfracombe. Nice and quiet, with a friendly welcome: in fact everyone we met was friendly and welcoming. The room was spacious and clean, apart from a few cobwebs on the beams. Breakfast was excellent, and overall we had a good, value for money overnight stay. We would return here for a longer stay to explore the area.

Tips:

We were directed to a pub, The Crown in West Down for a very good evening meal by the gentleman who booked us in, and we were more than happy with this recommendation. We had a superb meal, at a fairly reasonable price.

Set on the outskirts of Ilfracombe, idle for exploring the area would need car to pop into town. Large Pub up the road, servers good carvery. although in walking distance no pavements on busy road. Plenty of places to eat in town

17th May 2017:

We very much enjoyed staying with you. We found you to be welcoming and friendly and were glad of your advise about going to Lundy and the local area. The rooms were clean, warm and comfortable. The free wi-fi was useful and the tea making facilities and biscuits were good. Being able to leave our car with you whilst staying on Lundy was safer than leaving it in a public car park. Breakfast was superb. The fridge in the hall was a good idea and all in all we thought you were good value. Hopefully we will return one day and will certainly recommend you to others.

Tips:

Nearby Cook Island pub, although rather large and no 'atmosphere' offers cheap, and very tasty carveries Friday - Sunday. The Smugglers, near Ilfracombe harbour, is very quaint and does good meals at a reasonable price. Arlington Court and the National Trust Carriage Museum near Barnstable is worth a visit - look out for the peacocks. Coombe Martin beach is interesting at low tide with various rock formations and rock pools to explore. Watersmeet at Lynmouth is very pretty and there are plenty of walks to do.

Lovely Room and very comfortable. The Full English Breakfast was great and loved the home made Jam & Marmalade too. The Farm is well located for both Woolacombe and Ilfracome although you do need a car as nothing is within walking distance.

Tips:

Had a great walk on Morte Point and as always the beach at Woolacombe is fantastic. The weather could have been better but we enjoyed re-visiting Combe Martin, Lynmouth as well as Ilfracombe.

My husband and I stayed at Mullacott for my step-mother's funeral. The room was excellent, superbly clean, spacious and well equipped. The bathroom has a great shower which, unlike many other places, was in perfect working order, with plenty of hot water. The breakfast was excellent with lots of variety. Mullacott is very quiet and despite the gale force wind and rain that night, we didn't get disturbed due to the sound Windows and the comfort of the room.

Tips:

If travelling from Barnstaple, pass Mullacott park (where we turned in by mistake) and the B&B is a short way further down the road. Sign posted with the horse riding school.

This family run Farmhouse B&B is excellent. As a result of the warm welcome, great local knowledge (particularly about where to eat), comfortable and extremely clean room, good dining facilities and excellent breakfast we had a really good weekend stay.

Tips:

A trip on the MS Oldenburg to Lundy Island, with it's breath-taking views of the North Devon coastline, is a must and the island itself is a fascinating view into life in a remote community. We also went to the nearby Arlington Court, a National Trust estate which houses The National Carriage Museum, a wonderful collection of horse drawn transportation - a beautiful estate with lots to see.

Generally an OK b&b, although the term 'farm' is rather misleading as the accommodation is in a modern barn conversion, with no indication of a working farm. Very much in the holiday camp style. Also, the room only had skylights, when a proper window would have been nicer. Breakfast the standard fare. Could do with providing orange juice which is not from concentrate and which has a fresh taste.

Tips:

Try the Embassy cinema, just a few minutes away. Nice old-fashioned place with popcorn and a licensed bar.

Owner Response:

Thank you for your review. The barn is adjacent to the farmhouse, and although converted 15 years ago, is 100 years old. If you had walked around the farm you would have seen various poultry, including geese, chickens, ducks and guinea fowl, horses, alpacas and sheep. Next week we will be cutting and processing our hay, so yes, very much a working farm. We do have a lovely quiet room at the back, that only has sky lights. There was another room with a view available, but you chose the cheeper room available when you booked. The standard fare breakfast was mainly produced on the farm, with our own bacon, sausages, and eggs. I am not sure which juice you had, we serve what is available at the supermarket at the time. I am pleased you enjoyed the cinema, we love going there too.

The tranquil surroundings, the friendly and helpfulness of the owners,a super room complete with patio and yummy breakfast made this one of our best finds. Thank you.

Tips:

We decided to walk into the town its 2.8 miles cutting across the farms fields leads to the main road and start of footpath. Taxi back, 'Grab a Cab' driver gave us lots of tips to explore Ilfracombe, best for us was the Museum. Had a nice meal in The Smugglers on the Quay, otherwise it was a pot luck.

I think there should be a bigger and clearer sign for the B & B as you turn into the drive from the main road. A bit confusing for someone who has not been there before! Therefore doesn'f feel very inviting to start with.

Lovely B&B in nice surroundings on farm. Excellent breakfast and rooms. This is run by family members and Alison and the rest of the family couldn't be more helpful in giving advice and directions in the area. We would definitely return again. Thankyou for a wonderful 3 nights stay. Derek and Sue

Tips:

Woolacombe has a nice safe and sandy beach for the kids, also mini golf and rides. Lea beach is a great place for young explorers with rock pools and caves, my 9 yr old grandson didn't want to leave. Dinosaur park is not far away and well worth a visit.

22nd March 2016:

We would highly recommend this B and B for so many reasons. The welcome is warm, the rooms are very well appointed with every facility you could wish for. We had a ground floor room with its own terrace which must be gorgeous when the weather warms up. Breakfasts are excellent especially as so many components are either made on the farm or locally sourced. Alison and her family took great pains to make sure our stay was enjoyable. They are a very friendly family and love to help in any way. We were searching family history and they were very informative on local matters and potential sources. We hope to return in the near future. Thank you.

Tips:

This venue is well situated for all that Ilfracombe can offer but with the benefit of being on a working farm with beautiful views and peace. It is also well placed for the beach at Woolacombe and the lovely coastline. There are many activities locally so great for kids all round.

The extra charge for a child is not exactly clear there were 3 beds in the room so don't understand why paying an extra £15 is really appropriate espally for a 2 year old.Thought i was only paying £80 had to pay £95. some confusion here. I thought the £15 charge was for a cot etc. Everything else was brilliant loved it here will stay here again if i can pay around the £80 or less the breakfast was very good rooms were brilliant.

Generally all was fine. It's a farm and what we expected. One thing that disappointed was the breakfast. Being a farm I would expect fresh produce. My eggs and my partners were the worst we have had. I think my scrambled eggs had been microwaved. The bacon was wet and tasteless and the toast was cold. Really need to do better.

Owner Response:

Thank you for your review. I am sorry you weren't satisfied with your breakfast. We are approachable, and I remember chatting to you, so you could have told us at the time, and given us the opportunity or rectifying it for you. On the cooked breakfast it is only the mushrooms, baked beans and the hash browns that aren't produced on the farm, so this was definitely fresh produce. If you had wanted your bacon cooked more, you only needed to ask. We always microwave our scrambled eggs, like most people do now. As you know, the toast comes out with the hot breakfast, but we could have bought you more out, or delayed it, if you had mentioned it.

What a lovely place to stay. Near to our relatives in a beautiful setting. Convenient for the bus stop as parking in nearby Ilfracombe and Woolacombe is at a premium. The staff were lovely, helpful and friendly. The quality and food portions were perfect and tasty. The bedroom and ensuite was lovely and comfortable with plenty of room, seems ideal for families and couples of all ages.

Tips:

We were in the area to visit family and have been coming to stay for many years and usually stay with family. We would suggest that any visitor check out the information leaflets and selects what appeals to them. There is more than enough choice for any visitor to the area. The beaches are superb, the countryside beautiful for walking and attractions are very interesting and reasonably priced.
