22nd September 2018:

Very friendly and very accommodating staff. You can tell a lot of time and care has gone into Score Valley from the setting all the way through to the extra facilities for dogs! :)

Tips:

We walked all around Ilfracombe which is very easy to get to from Score Valley. Stopped for cream tea on the sea front. Then had an evening meal at smugglers restaurant, this was recommended in the guest book in our room and we were not disappointed. Great food

This country hotel suited our needs just perfectly. Great location, easy to park outside. We had a spotless en suite, a massive bed, and were warm and and cosy. We were made to feel very welcome. Debbie gave us some terrific tips on where to visit, and overall we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Would definitely recommend to others.

Tips:

We took the local bus to Woolacombe Bay and had a lovely walk on the beach and coffee, spent a pleasant couple of hours there. Beck to Ilfracombe and enjoyed a coast ride on the Ilfracombe Princess. Great commentary, well worth the trip. Very friendly people there too.

We visited nine different b&bs on a cycling tour of Devon and this was head and shoulders the best. Donna was the perfect hostess and her husband served up a fine breakfast. It is an interesting old building and the honesty bar was an innovation - it gave us something to come back for after eating out. We would highly recommend it.

Friendly & welcoming . lovely breakfasts. Room very tastefully decorated. Had everything we needed. Allowed us to leave our car at Score Valley while we went for a few days stay on Lundy Island.

Tips:

Sawmill at Coombe Martin for eats. We stayed at Score Valley before & after a stay on Lundy ('Google' it to see if you'd like it). Visited Porlock Weir by the Toll road - lovely views & place. Also went to Lynton/Lynmouth on the cliff Railway.

A traditional country house, that sits in a beautiful valley setting. It has large, interesting garden and grounds to explore, and there are many original features inside and outside of the property. We booked in at the last minute at the guest house, due our camping trip come to an abrupt end because of heavy rain. Score valley luckily had a cancellation and we was rescued from the bad weather. Donna made us welcome and was very helpful giving us directions to the guest house and any information she could. Our room was clean, cosy and comfortable. Donna had set up a cot for my baby and even hand made a little quilt to go in the cot. My baby was very comfortable as were we. The room has supplies of toiletries, tea/coffee facilities and a television with many channels. We had a full English breakfast served to us in the dining room, with tea and toast, all cooked perfectly. There were also fruits, breakfast cereals , and juices available. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would recommend score valley guest house to anyone looking for homely accommodation at a very reasonable price.

Tips:

Ilfracoombe town is a short drive away and has a combination of of pubs, cafes and restaurants available. The local beaches are very scenic and are worth a visit.

An old house, converted into what it is now; some anomalies in the course of the conversion: masses of space, no mirror above the washbasin, lack of pressure in the shower, and a slightly humid feel when we walked in. That said, Donna's welcome was, well, welcome, the breakfast was spot-on and the house a delightful up-and-down, roundabout old-English place; long may it continue!

Tips:

We can recommend the fish & chip shop on the harbour road (was it called the Dolphin?), and Thyme (Out, was it?) in Fore Street. Damian Hirst's 'Verity', a travesty inspired by Degas, is worth a look, and the heart-rending memorial to Ekaterina Forlov, aka Kate, is a must, and well worth the cimb!

Beautifully secluded in an awe inspiring valley with very pretty and lovingly tendered gardens. Rooms were lovely, spacious, clean and immediately one felt relaxed and at peace with the world. Thoroughly recommended, friendly and super helpful owners.

It had everything needed for an overnight stay. I liked the fact it was very quiet. The only slightly negative comment was that the bed springs were quite noticeable in that I could feel them, either a mattress topper or new mattress would solve that. In warmer weather I would have liked to be able to open the window a bit more, I wasn't game to try.

Tips:

The guest house is about a mile outside of the town but its possible to walk into Ilfracombe via a road that joins up with the main route in which we did to go to the fabulous Take Thyme fish restaurant. Just be aware if dark on the way back you'll need a torch as the final part is not lit...its also uphill. We enjoyed the walk.

In a peaceful clean and tidy location, homely and welcoming hotel with an fun and old fashioned feeling to it. Lovely breakfast - can order a pot of tea and toast probably endlessly and/or cereal, full English. Plus having friendly chats in the mornings with the hotel owners! Very helpful and cheerful. Wish we had made more use of the bar!

Warm friendly welcome from the owners. Very spacious comfortable rooms with welcome tray filled to the brim with tea coffee milk and what ever else you could think of after a long journey this was most welcome. Bathroom had plenty of toiletries the owners had thought of everything.we were able to park our car earlier than booking in which gave us piece of mind and the opportunity to explore ilfracombe. Breakfast was outstanding with everything you could wish for and Donna was on hand at all times making sure you had enough.

Tips:

We ate in Smugglers which is in the Quayside area of ilfracombe for main meals good value for money and service very good we also ate the Naked cake Cafe which again. Was outstanding. There are plenty of places to eat however they get very busy so you may have to wait but we'll worth it. A visit to Linton and Linmouth is a must beautiful scenery and plenty of art and craft shops to visit. Also a drive to Dartmoor is worth the drive outstanding scenery. Ilfracombe has plenty to do from beautiful Clifftop walks to a trip through the tunnel to secluded beaches and Rockpools Also the harbour where you will find Verify a 66ft tall Damian Hurst statue

Very friendly staff who made us feel welcome and comfortable in the hotel. I would stay here again and would recommend to people travelling to the area.

Tips:

I used this hotel to be close to Woolacombe beach. It is about 5 miles away by car and easy to get to. The hotel is in lovely secluded grounds and is very private. There are several places to eat and drink in both Woolacombe and Ilfracombe. Lots of things to do from country/coastal walks, learning to surf, boat trips...etc. I recommend eating at Bar Electric in Woolacombe as the food at the Red Barn has become very much like school dinners which is a shame as the location is lovely.

The room was pretty spacious (Room 7) with a nice sized bed, plenty of tea and coffee, some biscuits also :) The room was lovely and clean, the bath was sparkling clean, with nice towels supplied also. Breakfast was at a nice time and no rush rush, to get you in and out, the food was very nice and served at your own pace. friendly and welcoming, helpful and genuine. A pleasant place to stay just outside the hustle and bustle of the town. A very good breakfast to get you started.

Tips:

Very well situated for anyone doing any of the walking around this area. It's well off the road so it's quiet. It's an easy walk to town, in, say 20 mins, but be aware that the return walk is a gradual uphill with a steepish uphill bit at the end. It depends how much walking you've done during the day.

The lovely couple that own this B&B are always really friendly and you never feel like anything is too much trouble. They accommodated our surfing needs by allowing us to store our wet, sandy wetsuits etc in a covered area of the garden which meant that we could just get up and go each morning. Breakfast is to die for always too and I have visited a good few times now and will again!! Fabulous place to stay!

Tips:

Hele Billy's in Hele Bay is a must for dinner as its amazing food and very friendly for families and couples alike! Booking is essential though. Also the cream teas at The Mill in Hele are superb value and enormous!

A lovely tranquil place to stay. The room was nice and clean and a decent size. The beds were very comfortable . Great breakfast of good proportions and a very good choice on offer, to give you a good start to the day. A nice friendly welcoming atmosphere, some rooms are OK for dogs too - very accommodating.

It is possible to walk in to illfracombe town centre, through a back route - away from the main road. There is also a very nice park.

Thank you for your feedback and for pointing out the snags for people with mobility problems. On our site we do have a disability statement pointing out that due to the age of the property we have no ground floor rooms and all access is via stairs, we also give a brief outline of the location of each room . We do point out to guests that it is possible to avoid the A361 by taking Score Lane down the hill.

Loved the serenity of this peaceful property. So many other B&B's are located on a busy main road that runs thriough the village itself. I found that this was a great option if you are travelling with a vehicle. My room was comfortable and had a window that opened onto a garden view . Good wifi was available from the downstairs sitting room althought not in the bedroom which might be a problem for some. Limited phone reception too but seems to be a reoccuring problem in all North Devon .

Tips:

I enjoyed my visits to Woolacombe Beach and the village of Mortehoe which are close by if driving . It has good dining options, shopping, beach walks and coastal scene walks watching surfers enjoy the waves.. Ilfracombe is down the hill and has an interesting High St and interesting pier area.

Clean, comfortable and characterful property with efficient, friendly and helpful people to provide a homely and welcoming time in a delightfully attractive area.

Tips:

Lundy is good for exploring. The complimentary lift in a Landrover to and from the pier and village is a great help for the less mobile and those with push chairs as the walk is a bit rough and steep in places. Hele Billy's was a good place to eat. It is popular so gets very busy at times making booking worth doing if time of eating is important otherwise they are willing to fit people in when things get quieter. Parking is at the kerb-side and limited but the public car park is a little farther on down the road to the harbour and free after 6.00pm We enjoyed the worship and welcome at the church of St Philip and St James (known to them as Pip and Jim's Church). Parking is in the church grounds and plentiful.
