18th September 2018:

Very warm welcome. Helpful advice about places to eat etc. Beautiful house and garden. Excellent breakfast. Comfortable, luxurious accommodation enhanced by attention to small details.

Tips:

Ilfracombe itself is very scenic and good for walking. There are fine views from the top of Capstone Hill, and the Beach Tunnels are worth a visit. We went on trips to Clovelly and Combe Martin. We had enjoyable meals in The George and Dragon, The Smuggler and Giovanni and Luca's.

17th September 2018:

This booking was a bit of a "Punt" when I booked it, not knowing Ilfracombe at all well. As it turned out, I could not have picked a better place for a few days away. Our hosts have done an amazing job of giving a tired old house a new lease of life. They also set the bar very high in terms of friendly & helpful service. As a business, this deserves success, and I look forward to visiting again in the future, especially if the dining room is open in the evening. Although Ilfracombe boasts some fine restaurants, I'm sure that Westwell Hall will do it better!

Tips:

I can recommend Restaurant Seventy one in Fore st., and The Quay (on the quay surprisingly enough!). Both good places for dinner, and popular so book ahead.

Owner Response:

Thank you for your lovely review, I am sorry you were not happy with the location of Westwell Hall, it depends on what you are looking for. We will always give totally honest opinions and advice as to the suitability of our accommodation if guests call or email us before booking. Certainly, we are not in the town centre, but if you are looking for tranquility, amazing views and reasonable accessibility to the town by foot or by car, we would be a 5.

30th July 2018:

Our stay at Westwell Hall was wonderful and we did not want to leave. The house itself is absolutely beautiful and our room was lovely with dual aspect and sea views. The whole house was spotless and nothing was too much trouble for Bonnie and Betty. They were perfect hosts and made us feel really special. On the first night it was very warm outside and I mentioned to Bonnie at breakfast that I was quite warm in the room and then without even asking Betty and Bonnie went out and bought a fan for our room. And Betty also arranged lactose free butter and yoghurt for breakfast when I mentioned I was lactose intolerant. Drinks and cake on the terrace was a lovely thought on our arrival and the location up in the hills overlooking Ilfracombe made for a quiet and peaceful stay. We would definitely recommend Westwell Hall and will be returning again in the future.

26th July 2018:

I can’t recommend this hotel highly enough. The building is beautiful and has been tastefully refurbished to be a beautiful blend of Victorian and modern. The owners are working very hard to give everyone a relaxed and personalised stay. I stayed in the single room which was bigger than most single rooms and very well appointed. Lovely touches such as Elemis toiletries and home made biscuits really made a difference. The bed was very comfortable and the hotel very quiet and peaceful. I felt the value for money was excellent and I hope to return soon, assuming they’re not fully booked!

Tips:

Ilfracombe is great. I recommend the Naked Cake Cafe in town and Tunnels Beaches which can be accessed for £2.50 but it’s well worth it for a wonderful swim. The harbour area is also lovely and I recommend a boat trip up the coast.

Absolute joy to stay here. From the warm welcome we received on arrival, everything was 1st class. Room was tastefully decorated and comfortable, couple this with the professional and courteous manner of you both, then you have the recipe for a perfect break in a lovely part of Devon.

Tips:

Good choice of restaurants in Ilfracombe, and plenty of areas to explore, Woolacombe, Combe Martin & Mortahoe to name a few.

10th July 2018:

This place was only chosen because it had parking facilities (not easily come by in Ilfracombe) but what a gem it turned out to be. The awkward approach road and rather forbidding exterior of the building had us fearing the worst. What a delightful surprise awaited us. The friendly owners Bonnie and Betty have created an interior of great beauty and interest and all in exquisite taste. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable with numerous thoughtful extras. The food was of the highest possible standard and the evening meal full of delicious flavours, beautifully presented and at a price we would have readily paid double for.

Tips:

All in all absolutely brilliant. This is the place to be and don’t think of eating anywhere else.

Betty and Bonny are wonderfully warm and exceptionally helpful hosts, ably aided by their charming dog Pickle. Westwell Hall is beautifully situated at the top of Ilfracombe, with fantastic views out over the town towards the sea. The house has been lovingly restored in a quirky and original style. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have ever slept in! Betty’s cooking is classic modern and absolutely delicious. We stayed here overnight on our way to Lundy but would have happily stayed longer...

Bonnie and Betty simply couldn't do enough for us, they were wonderful hosts. The house is delightful, wonderfully quirky and interesting. The food was perfection! And we had the added bonus of Pickle! Absolutely the best B&B we have ever been to.

Tips:

Ilfracombe is an interesting fishing village, with many stunning views, with a little walking effort. We walked from Ilfracombe to Woolacombe which was amazing though a lot of up and down, but well worth the views and wildlife. Damien Hirst's huge statue of Verity overlooking Ilfracombe harbour excites differing responses but is certainly worth seeing.

5th June 2018:

A recently renovated Victorian manor that has been impeccably appointed in a modern style. The proprietors, Bonnie and Betty, were friendly and extremely welcoming. We were treated more as House guests than as customers, they even gave us a ride down to our restaurant reservation with a quick tour of the town that highlighted what to see and do. Our large suite had a truly comfortable bed with big fluffy pillows, the modern bath room also had plenty of towels that were very large and extremely thick. Well done, 5 stars all the way!

Tips:

Make reservations for dinner in their dining room when you book your room, Betty is a talented chef that makes all the offerings fresh from scratch everyday. So she needs to know that you intend to dine in in order to accommodate you. Also they have a small dog, Pickle, that lives on premises. The house is fastidiously clean and she is very friendly, but if you are allergic to dogs please be aware.
